LOS TEQUILEROS by Dolores Diaz
Sunday, January 29 at 6:30pm
State Theatre, 719 Congress Ave.
Los Tequileros tells the story of the border ballad by the same name that commemorates a fateful day in south Texas and the revenge killing of three tequila smugglers by American law enforcement following the recent murder of a Customs inspector.
Dolores Diaz is a small-time playwright from Laredo, Texas just trying to do this story some sense of justice. She was inspired by her brother, George Diaz, a border scholar and PHD who initially researched the tequileros and encouraged her to tell this story. Her latest short play, Border Grammar, was produced by the Theatro Chicano de Laredo. Dolores lives and works in Austin as an editor and quality assurance professional for an environmental consulting company.
