WHAT WE DO
ScriptWorks is playwright development and service organization that was founded to:
- Create a home for dramatic writers that stimulates imagination
- Develop new dramatic works to their fullest potential and feed them into the local and national markets
- Produce and encourage the production of new work that lends dignity to the playwright’s vision
- Network and enhance the visibility of the diverse community of playwrights in the Central Texas area

WEEKEND FLING ACTIVITIES 2025
The Weekend Fling, where members have 48 hours to write a ten-minute play using 3 contributed ingredients is around the corner. Whether you’re a member or a new play lover, there’s something for you:
- The Fling Workshop: Shorter Isn’t Easier
An online Dramatis Personae Workshop with Gary Garrison (the man who wrote the books on ten-minute plays!)

- Happy Hour Kickoff, Friday, November 21st, 5:30-7:30 pm (Central Market on North Lamar)
Members are invited to hang out and have a beer or a bite and hear the official reveal of the Fling ingredients
- Member Write-Up, Saturday, November 22nd at 1:00 – 3:00 pm (Brewtorium near ACC Highland )
This month’s writing meet-up is the Fling Edition. Come write for an hour and hang out with other members in the throes of creativity.
- The Fling Salon
Sunday, November 23rd at 5:30 pm
Hyde Park Theatre, 511 W. 43rd St.
The culmination of the Weekend Fling, the Fling Salon is where the 48-hour fruits of labor will be revealed. ScriptWorks will provide an ensemble of actors to cold-read the hot-off-the-printer scripts with casting on the spot. This Salon is open to the public so all are welcome!
Eight of the plays written in the Weekend Fling will be selected for production in our Out of Ink short play showcase in May at Hyde Park Theatre. You must be a member to write for the Fling and have your work considered for Out of Ink. Click on Memberships above to join.
