Every family has some quirky legacy they cling to and this year those rituals go on the record in ScriptWorks’ OUT OF INK 2023: Family Traditions. This diverse ten-minute play collection showcases ScriptWorks members’ unexpected interpretations of three mandatory script ingredients which provided inspiration during the Weekend Fling 48-hour writing event in the fall.
This year, New Manifest Artistic Director, Simone Alexander, Co-Director of Ground Floor Theatre, Patti Neff-Tiven, and playwright, poet, and actor Jesús Valles contributed the following ingredients:
-
An odd family tradition
-
A character becomes something non-human over the course of the play
-
A vinyl record
At the end of the Weekend Fling, the plays were read in a ScriptWorks Salon. A selection committee consisting of ScriptWorks board chair, Zell Miller, III and non-applying members Elizabeth Cobb and Carl Gonzales chose eight plays for production in Out of Ink from the thirty-plus plays that were submitted.
The scripts were written by:
Seth Beaugh, David DuBose, Raul Garza, Ava Love Hanna, Ty Hoppe, Sandy Maranto, Pablo Muñoz-Evers, and Eva Suter. The plays will be performed by an ensemble of actors comprised of Zac Carr, Marina DeYoe-Pedraza, Karina Dominguez, Alani Henry, Gina Houston, Eliza Renner, Roberto Soto, and Juleeane Villarreal. They’ll be directed by Lowell Bartholomee, Rosalind Faires, Ellie McBride, and Kelsey Oliver. Designers for the project are Lowell Bartholomee (sound/video), Cortney DeAngelo (sets/props), Pam Friday (costumes), and Amy Lewis (lights).
